In partnership with Southampton CIty Council's Healthy Communities Team, Swaythling have been supporting Walk, Talk and Lunch for residents who cannot or will not walk far.
The project was developed to help residents get out of their home and take exercise in a comfortable environment. Residents can be collected from their homes by a fully accessible minibus. They are taken to a venue which has a wheelchair friendly walk. Volunteers are on hand to help push those who need to use a wheelchair and to offer a supporting arm and friendly face. Following the walk there is a lunch and more opportunity for everyone to chat.
Walks are tailored to suit the abilities of those taking part and are on various days of the week, with Saturday walks taking place to meet the needs of those who may feel particularly isolated or lonely at the weekends.
