TPAS Accreditation

TPAS Accreditation Awarded

Swaythling's commitment to outstanding Community Involvement has been officially recognised by the presentation of Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) Accreditation.

Swaythling, part of Radian, has always played an active part in local communities and has a strong commitment to resident participation. A stronger link has been developed between resident involvement and Swaythling’s corporate strategy.

TPAS found that “Resident Board members’ views are highly valued” and there exists “a strong sense of accountability and reporting back by resident representatives.”

The accreditation process has highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of Swaythling’s resident involvement activity and they are developing further opportunities for residents to scrutinise their services and influence decisions on funding in local areas. The next initiative is to pilot a programme of neighbourhood inspections by residents.

Community development is at the heart of Swaythling’s approach and a full range of involvement opportunities are available for residents to suit their desired level of commitment. Some of these activities include: newsletters edited by resident panels, funded resident groups, estate walkabouts and resident audits.

The award was presented to Swaythling as part of the Neighbours’ Day celebration which aims to bring communities together by encouraging people to talk to their neighbours and get to know each other. Events are held in more than 28 countries with over seven million people taking part.

Michelle Reid, Chief Executive, TPAS said, “Swaythling Housing Society, in achieving the TPAS Landlord Accreditation Award, has demonstrated a positive and proactive approach to involvement that will ensure it is well placed to meet the challenges.”

“We are really proud of this achievement. It reflects the positive partnership between staff and residents on a number of initiatives. We are particularly proud of TPAS's recognition of our positive community development work. Swaythling invests significantly in this activity to meet our commitment to creating sustainable communities.” Jill Stafford, Community Involvement Manager, Swaythling.
