Southern Water’s five year programme to install water meters across the South East is progressing well having started in late 2010.
More than 25,000 meters have been fitted in Southampton under the programme, with meter installation teams set to continue working in the city before moving into other parts of Hampshire.
Metering is a fairer system as you only pay for the water you use.
Water resources in the South East are under pressure. The region has been officially classified as one of water stress.
Southern Water is introducing meters for 92% of its customers because people on a meter tend to use 10% less water.
