The first new homes at the former Vosper Thornycroft site on Woolston Riverside have now been completed.
Along with private sale units, the first phase of 59 affordable homes are now handed over. Radian have been working in partnership with the HCA, Crest Nicholson, Spectrum Housing Group and Southampton City Council to deliver these homes and families are now living in their new homes on Victoria Road.
All homes at Centenary Quay will be connected to a new on-site CHP energy centre which will provide energy efficient heating, hot water and power for all residents and will help to reduce CO2 emissions.
The new homes are served by a new road that re-directs local traffic away from Victoria Road and through the Centenary Quay site, helping to connect the new community with the established one. As this first phase progresses, the next two phases are likely to go through the planning process at the end of this year. Phase 2 will include more homes along with a new library and crèche.

Southern Water’s five year programme to install water meters across the South East is progressing well having started in late 2010.
More than 25,000 meters have been fitted in Southampton under the programme, with meter installation teams set to continue working in the city before moving into other parts of Hampshire.
Metering is a fairer system as you only pay for the water you use.
Water resources in the South East are under pressure. The region has been officially classified as one of water stress.
Southern Water is introducing meters for 92% of its customers because people on a meter tend to use 10% less water.

To find out more, please visit www.southernwater.co.uk/metering or call the dedicated Metering Contact Centre on 0333 2003 012.

Project offering services to community up and running
If you live in Woolston, Southampton, and want to know what’s going on, drop by the new Woolston WINDOW in Victoria Road. There’s an internet cafe and a work club and advice cafe run by Radian. Communicare and Time Bank are also based there, along with housing surgeries and community projects run and funded by Radian, Raglan Housing and Spectrum Western Challenge housing associations.
Councillor Carol Cunio, Mayor of Southampton, officially opened the facility. “WINDOW is quite an achievement when so many other projects are closing because of lack of funds,” says Giv Thornton, Community Development Officer. “It should be particularly useful for new residents at Centenary Quay.”
