Radian donation for drug awareness program

The residents sitting on the Solent Area Panel have shown their support of local children with a generous donation of £1,500, awarded through their Community Funding budget. Their support will help to guarantee annual visits to local schools throughout the Solent area benefiting every child involved in the Life Education programme. The donation will support the work of Life Education Wessex who are the only organisation of its kind providing Health and Drug prevention education to over 70,000 children across the Wessex region including Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset and Devon.
Using specially trained Educators and high tech mobile classrooms, Life Education Wessex delivers funs, memorable and age appropriate Health and Drug awareness education programs to 3 - 11 year olds in primary schools.
Lorraine Hewitt, Corporate Development Fundraiser for Life Education Wessex said, ’Children today are facing ever- increasing pressures and temptations to damage their health and futures. Our programs aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and self confidence to make informed healthy decisions for themselves. It costs approximately £7.00 per child to visit the classroom and we do not receive any guaranteed funding, apart from a small contribution from schools, so we are almost totally reliant on charitable donations and the support of the wider community. This generous offer of support from Radian will make a real difference to children in their local community, there is still much work to be done in the area and our aim is to reach as many children as possible with our message of healthy living, giving every child the opportunity through Life Education to stay safe and well’.
A member of the Avon Area Panel commented “any support to families and children to improve health and promote active lifestyle is a positive”
