Getting online at Leslie Loader Court

Residents learning about computersResidents at Leslie Loader Court in Eastleigh have been learning computer skills as part of a Radian project to encourage older residents to get online. Scheme Manager, Joyce Marsh, approached the Community Involvement Team as residents had asked for some computer training.

Eight residents have been taking part in the weekly sessions learning basic computer skills and eventually moving on to using email and the internet. Feedback from the group has been very positive, and for some residents it has reignited a past interest in computers or memories of using typewriters.

Residents are keen to reap the benefits of using the internet – some have family abroad they would like to keep in touch with, and others want to start shopping online. It is hoped that this course may be rolled out to other sheltered housing schemes in the future so that more Radian residents can appreciate the benefits of what is known as ‘Silver Surfing’.
