Flying the rainbow flag

Formed last year, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Group have been looking at how Radian can support both staff and residents. They also look at ways to improve engagement with LGBT residents.

In each quarterly meeting there are ‘hot topics’ of discussion. The most recent discussion was about Radians publications and the group felt that Radian should consider the use of images in its publications to include images of same gender couples, regardless of their sexual orientation. Residents also felt there was a bias towards activities for families and children and would welcome a wider variety of projects that can be more inclusive. This has produced positive outcomes for Radian as are now developing a logo to make everyone feel welcome at events, we also have feedback comments to staff regarding wording used in our publications.

A group of staff and residents attended the Bournemouth Pride event last year. This was publicised in our resident’s magazine and resulted in quiet a few new members getting involved. Attending the Bournemouth Gay pride promoted Radian and their support of LGBT groups and individuals.

The next meeting in June will be surrounding issues that LGBT residents and staff may experience within housing such as anti-social behaviour, domestic violence and harassment.
