Amesbury Archer Primary School in Archers Gate has worked with Swaythling’s recycle and sew project to produce a quilt with the theme of ‘my special place’.
Children were taught quilting and sewing techniques to produce a quilt showing the history of the area and the things they are proud of in the community they live in. All of the materials used were recycled.
The idea behind the project was to teach the children that they were able to recycle old items of clothing rather than through it away. The children also showed how proud they were of the area they lived in by designing the squares with local landmarks and community values.
The quilt will be ‘unveiled’ in an assembly and is going to be put up on the wall of the school hall for the whole community to enjoy.
