Building futures

Young people in Pilands Wood have recently been given the opportunity to complete their Construction Skills Certification Scheme training, which will enable them to go on to jobs in the construction industry.

With funding from the Radian Community Fund and supported by Pilands Wood Community Association, eight residents have been going through the training, which focuses on health and safety in construction. The course takes an average nine hours of study (broken up into weekly sessions) and includes an online exam.

Shaun Wall, a Radian resident from Oak Road, is 19 and was without a job when he heard about the course. He is keen to pass as it will enable him to start working with his dad as a labourer. A number of the young men on the course have jobs lined up as soon as they pass – a great result and we wish them well.
