Black History Month

Black History monthSouthampton is lucky enough to have three groups of young volunteers that work closely alongside the Police. They meet on a weekly basis with local Police Community Support Officers in Lumpy Lane, Chapel and Deanery developments.

They call themselves 'Junior PCSO'S' they are between the ages of eight and twelve years old. Junior PCSO's undertake activities such as litter picks, clean up days, safety talks, fitness and much more.

To celebrate Black History Month 2009 Swaythling Housing Society, Police Community Support Officers and Junior PCSO's teamed up to create a time capsule. The Junior PCSO's worked on art, pictures and poetry showing why they admire black heroes. They were asked to think about their own hopes and aspirations for the future and think about how they can follow in the foot steps of their favourite hero. The time capsule will be buried in a secret location in St Mary's, Southampton. In years to come the capsule will be opened and the contents returned to the children.
