On April 12th 2010 children from Amesbury came to the community centre armed with bikes, helmets and reflective jackets for a day of biking and fun.
The day was organised by Wiltshire police, Amesbury Town council and Swaythling Housing Society. The aim of the day was to promote cycling in and around the town, as well as cycle safety and security.
Free bike safety checks were provided, and police staff were available to security code bicycles and equipment and give advice on preventing theft. Free equipment such as lights and locks were given out, as well as a raffle provided by Wiltshire Council’s road safety unit, which promotes the Bikeability safety scheme.
In the afternoon the children were all invited on a bike ride to Bonnymead Park, Amesbury where there was a huge Easter egg hunt around the grounds.
“It was fantastic,” said Helen Morrison, deputy clerk for the town council. “We were so lucky because the weather was great.
“I think we had more than 26 children do the actual bike ride, and when we got down to Bonnymead Park there were more people there to do the egg hunt.
“It was a really good day.”
