Children at Oakfield Gardens, Shirley, were recently invited to explore an ecology site next to their home. Led by Ian Bailey from the Hawthorns Centre, they investigated different plants, hunted for minibeasts and made their very own bee habitats. The site has been designated for nurturing wildlife and will be left undisturbed to encourage plants and insects to move in. The children decided to call the site ‘The Bug Garden’, to celebrate the numerous ladybirds, millipedes, slugs and worms they found there.
