Radian is proud of its ongoing support of Southampton’s Black History Month. This annual celebration promotes a greater awareness of the contribution that those of African/Caribbean origin have made throughout history.
Inspired by Black History Month, Radian has worked with local residents in the Chapel area to produce a tiled picnic table, which represents the diversity of the area. It has been placed permanently in the Chapel Play Park for the community to enjoy.
Local resident Jazz Singh said, “It is going to be lovely to add some colour to the play area”, whilst Anna Matthews added, “I never think to realise how diverse an area Chapel is. It is lovely that there are so many different people living here.”
Residents from the local community met at Southampton City College, where they were asked to think about the environment they lived in, and how they thought about their neighbours and the community before decorating the tiles with relevant pictures and writing.
The table represents issues relating to all cultures and includes housing, origins, family history, friendships, and religion.
The project has been funded by Radian and assembled by Radian Services. It is hoped to conduct a launch in the New Year when the cold weather has passed.
